【Learn Chinese 学汉语]】Difference between 想(xiang) and 要(yao) – Chinese Grammar – HSK Grammar

Hi, I’m Shuo, I’m a native Chinese speaking teacher living in Thailand.
I have almost 7 years of experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language and I describe myself as a “Teaching Geek” :P.
=====
In this video, you will finally understand the difference between 想 and 要。

想 xiǎng:
1. to think
2. to miss
3. to want.

要 yào:
1. be going to
2. be going to (more determined)
3. have to, must

To summarize, 想 refers to mental activity, it’s an idea in your mind, while 要 is an action that you are really gonna do.
