July 31, 1965. Two Hawker Hunters from 20th Squadron sweeping Pulau Tioman during an anti-terrorist patrol over Malaya in August 1965. The single-seater Hunter was introduced into service in 1954 as a maneuverable daytime interceptor aircraft, quickly succeeding to the RAF's first-generation jet hunters such as the Gloster Meteor and the De Havilland Venom.
All Time/Night Fighter role has been filled by the Gloster Javelin. Successively improved type variants were produced, adopting increasingly capable engine models and expanding its fuel capacity among other modifications under implementation. The Hunter was also widely exported, serving with a total of 21 overseas air forces.
