Lt Ariffin bin Haji Sulaiman, Malay Regt

Lt Ariffin bin Haji Sulaiman like many other officers and men of the Regt, upon surrender of Singapore on the 15th February 1942, were taken PoW. Because he as well as Lt Ibrahim bin Sidek and other officers of the Royal Malay Regt refused to renounce the British crown, and take off their uniforms, they were executed by the Japanese on the 28th February 1942, as an example to others.

Note 1: There were two other officers, (as two are mentioned above), from the Royal Malay Regt, who were executed for exactly the same reason. These officers were:

Lt Abdullah bin Saad
Lt Abdul Wahid bin Mat Kidam

Note 2: Many thanks to Aiman Al-Hakim for sharing this photo, and information provided.
